As other reviewers wrote terrible replacement part. Came with tie rods and one of them was wrong. The connection to steering column was 180 degrees off. Now 4 months later it leaks. Stay away from this one.

The steering rack assembly was built with the wrong length tie rod on the drivers side. The alignment mechanic couldn t get the car properly aligned until the mechanic swapped out the wrong tie rod. Needless to say I had to pay for a new tie rod and the rack itself. As far as labor goes it gets worse. I had to have the part installed and removed reworked and installed again and pay for two alignments. Obviously Poor quality with no inspection system in place or this would have never happened. I would have saved $ and a lot of aggrevation if I had my mechanic get the right part from the local guy.

So I had a lot of trouble installing this rack into my 04 GTI 1.8T.My seals blew on the ends of my old rack so I decided to buy a new one. I installed this myself and am a very mechanical person and have done a lot of car work in the past.There are a few issues with this rack that makes it NOT as easy as taking out the old rack and putting the new one in.First the spline going from the rack to the steering column (at the driver s feet) is incorrect. Well it is the correct spline but it took me a while to figure out that it is 180 degrees off from the old rack. So when I first installed it my steering wheel was upside down by 180 degrees. To solve this I took out my steering wheel and flipped it 180 degrees. You shouldn t have to do this with a new rack.Second the bolt holes for the banjo bolts are drilled incorrectly. The bottom of the holes in the old rack are flat where in this rack they are beveled. This does not allow the bolt to go in far enough to seal. In fact there were about 2 threads showing when it was fully tightened. This may not seem like a big deal but when you realize the position of these banjo bolts in the car you can imagine how frustrating it is to install and uninstall these several times before realizing the real issue. To solve this I cut down about 4 threads from the banjo bolts so that they would fit.Last (this isn t a big deal) but the tie rods aren t the same length as OEM. So you can t just count the threads where the jam nut sits on the old inner tie rods and translate that to the new one. I had to do my own alignment by eye before taking it to get aligned.Basically it ll work with a little elbow grease and southern engineering but it s not ideal and it s not a product I would recommend. Oh and I still have a small leak from the banjo bolts that are not quite sealed yet.
