Floor Pan Repair Panel Products

Your auto's exterior is made of tough metallic components to ensure its frame's stability; without a good frame, your vehicle won't be able to hold the mechanical parts that are necessary to make it run. The floor pan repair panel is an integral part of the frame since it establishes the chassis, body, and the car's size. Though it is usually crafted from high-quality steel, this component is prone to corrosion and wear and tear since it carries a huge part of the vehicle's load and is exposed to various chemicals and substances from your tires. Once you have a rusty floor pan panel, make sure to have it replaced as soon as possible to avoid damage to the systems attached and quick breakdown of the vehicle. Most panels come with mounting holes for easy installation and proper alignment and have a floor pan to body area design to ensure proper fit that matches original contours. A great floor pan repair panel is one that is made of die-cast steel, has a direct product fit, and can be installed easily by screws, rivets, or weld-on. You can also opt for a panel that's divided into different sections to ensure secure footing. Installing New Floor Pan Repair Panels

A Floor pan is a sheet of metal lining the floor of your car. They are exposed to dirt, water and other harsh elements and it is no surprise that they eventually become worn out or corroded. Fortunately, replacement floor pan repair panels are available and are made to fit various makes and models of cars. The process of replacing your floor panel is a lengthy and hard one, requiring the use of saws and welding tools which can be daunting to beginners.

Difficulty level: Difficult

Tools that you'll need:

  • Floor pan repair panel
  • Reciprocating Saw
  • MIG welder
  • Welding helmet
  • Welding gloves
  • Screwdriver or socket wrench
  • Drill
  • Metal snips
  • Welding clamps

Step 1: Park your car in a cool shaded area.

Step 2: Remove everything from the interior of the car including the seats, consoles and other accessories.

Step 3: Carefully remove the carpet from the flooring to expose the metal sheet underneath. Some carpets may be secured by screws or bolts so use the proper tools to remove them.

Step 4: Drill a hole around the edge of the area you are replacing. Make sure the hole is big enough to fit the blade of the reciprocating saw.

Step 5: Drill additional holes at the angles of the edge you are replacing. This will help you maneuver the reciprocating saw.

Step 6: Cut out the section of the floor you are replacing with the reciprocating saw.

Step 7: Take the floor pan repair panel and lay it onto the area you have cut out. If the repair panel does not fit the cut-out area, then use the metal snips to trim it.

Step 8: Secure the floor panel with welding clamps.

Step 9: Spot weld the new floor panel every 3 inches to secure it to the car.

Step 10: Check for any loose areas around the floor pan repair panel.
