The Dodge Ram 2500 is probably one of the best diesel-powered pickup trucks one can ever drive. With its advanced turbo diesel engine, heavy-duty body construction, spacious interior cab, unparalleled torque rating, and superior towing capacity, the Ram 2500 is definitely the dream of every truck enthusiast. Introduced in 1994, the Dodge Ram 2500 is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by automotive giant Chrysler Group LLC. Used widely for commercial purposes, this diesel dream truck is the very definition of strength and durability.
1994: The early Dodge Ram 2500 models
This pickup truck model wasn’t labeled with the 2500 designation until 1994 when it was redesigned with a stronger and tougher exterior style. In order to appeal more to pickup buyers, the early 2500 models featured large grilles and looked more like big rig trucks. This unique design commanded instant recognition for Dodge Ram’s new line of full-size pickups. The Cummins turbo diesel from the first-generation Rams was retained, but there was also an alternative V10 engine for drivers who wanted increased pulling power. The 2500 series was also offered in two different gross vehicle weight (GVW) ratings, but Dodge dropped this feature in late 1990s to make way for the 2500 light duty and heavy-duty truck models. The heavy-duty 2500 series replaced the discontinued one-ton, single rear-wheel trucks.
1998: Dodge Ram 2500 upgrades
The interior and exterior features of Dodge Ram 2500s are constantly being upgraded and redesigned to keep up with the ever-changing demands of truck owners. The early 2500s boasted of in-cab storage features that set them apart from other pickup trucks. The spacious center and rear storage areas were extremely useful for carrying work equipment and items. In 1998, the dash and gauge cluster were redesigned with a more modern look. Contemporary, rounded plastic side-view mirrors replaced the rectangular ones to complement the 2500’s new quad-cab design. Safety features like dual depowered airbags and an alert chime signal for seat belts, doors, and headlights were also added in 1998. In 1999, the Dodge Ram 2500 Sport models were given restyled bumpers, body-color grilles, and quad-beam headlamps with clear lenses. Heated leather seats were added in 2000 to increase passenger comfort during cold weather. The latest Ram 2500 models feature Chrysler’s Uconnect touch screen infotainment system, a new center stack, a reliable information screen, a proximity key system, and upgraded climate controls.
