Ford offers truck-enthusiasts a better option to the already mighty F-350. Big frame, big wheels, and big engines: these are the words to describe the Ford F-350 Super Duty. But describing the truck as big is an understatement—considering its great history that has spanned beyond a decade. The company wouldn’t even dare imagine halting its unstoppable development. This is the perfect truck for any task that seems impossible. No job is too big, daunting, and intimidating for the monstrous power of the Ford F-350 Super Duty.
First Generation (1999-2007): A powerful start
To fully appreciate the F-350 Super Duty, one simply needed to look at what’s under the hood. At the heart of the truck was a 5.4 L V8 engine that carried 255 horsepower. As the years passed, the new engine with single overhead camshaft (SOHC) heads increased output to 300 horses. Harnessing this power was done by a 4-speed automatic, a 5-speed manual, or a 6-speed on the diesel on a 4x2 or 4x4-layout. A reliable suspension system gave the truck a steady base to keep the F-350 on the road. Different electronic upgrades and assists made it a great truck for heavy-duty jobs. The looks-department got attention as well with upgrades like lights, grille, gauges, and panel.
Second Generation (2008-2010): More boosts inside and outside
Once again, from the heart of the truck, the new Ford F-350 had an all-new and powerful Power Stroke V8 diesel engine. Add fuel injectors and a turbo system and the truck had 350-angry horses running it. Similar towing and handling features to that of the first-generation Super Duty were still available. Various trim and special-edition packages equipped the truck with more trims, off-road upgrades, and chrome compared to the base model. The F-350 as a whole was very powerful indeed, beaten only by its F-450 Super Duty brother.
Current Generation (2011- ): Tougher, stronger, cleaner
Before popping the hood, one look at the new-generation Ford F-350 Super Duty and it’s easy to see the huge leap it took from the 2nd generation. Bold grille and bumper covers greeted its adversaries. The truck achieved the perfect balance of a stylish exterior that appears tough enough to handle any challenges. This beast is powered by either an impressive 6.2 L SOHC V8 (385 hp) or a 6.7 Power Stroke V8 (400 hp). A 6-speed automatic transmission handled the massive energy. Amidst all this power, it’s a little surprising that one outstanding quality of the new F-350 Super Duty is its
best-in-class recognition in fuel economy. A powerful and clean: truly a super truck.
