The FX 35 is the V6 equipped version of the of the Infiniti FX vehicle line. It’s a crossover SUV, designed to combine the raw power of the big trucks with the nimbleness of a sports car, and it does an exceptional job on both counts. It’s muscular styling and top-notch performance have elevated it’s quality to something that few other vehicles can match.
2003 – 2008: First generation
The first generation FX35 was equipped with a 275-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine and a five-speed automatic transmission. Features included air conditioning, climate control, cruise control, power seats and HID headlights. Standard safety features included anti-lock disc brakes, stability control and traction control. A Sports package was released that included an improved sports-tuned suspension and 20-inch wheels followed by a Technology package that equipped the vehicle with features like a navigation system and intelligent cruise control.
In 2005, side-curtain airbags became standard. In 2006, the exterior styling was revised and additional features were added like leather seats, rear-view camera and a BOSE audio system. In 2007, an iPod connectable sound system was included while in 2008, satellite radio became available.
Reviews for the vehicle were generally positive. The engine’s power was abundant and its handling was responsive, making it a really fun driving experience. The suspension system provided a pretty balanced ride despite the height of the vehicle which meant that turning corners won’t be much of a problem.
2009 – Present: Second generation
The second generation FX35 got a significant increase in power, with its V6 engine being bumped up to 303 horsepower. It is currently equipped with a seven-speed automatic transmission with a manual mode. The suspension has been improved with the use of a double-wishbone front suspension. Standard features include a BOSE sound system, automatic climate control, leather seats, power mirrors, rear-view mirror and an intelligent key system. Safety features include front and side airbags and crumple zone to absorb impact damage.
A Limited edition of the FX35 was released in 2012 with only 550 units produced. It featured an all-wheel drive, 21-inch aluminum turbine wheels, all-season tires, a navigation system and an Iridium blue exterior color.
The second generation FX35 retains what made its predecessor such an amazing vehicle. Engine power and handling are still second to none. It is equipped with a whole bevy of gadgets that may overwhelm owners at first, but it eventually makes them think about why’ve they’ve gone so long without such technology.
