The Lexus IS 250 belonged to the second generation of the IS models that came out in 2005 to conquer the entry-luxury performance sedan market segment. Since its first year of sales, the IS models have sold over 49,000 units - a 332 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year. Being part of a successfully lineup, the Lexus IS 250 is one of the reasons why the Lexus IS models made it to the ten best-selling luxury cars in the U.S.
The Lexus IS 250 debuted in 2006 to replace the previous IS 300. Developed to attract a younger audience, the IS 250 featured a sportier style and more power under the hood. It was equipped with a 204 horsepower 2.5-liter V6 engine, new power trains, a high quality cabin, an MP3 port, a six-disc in-dash CD changer, and a whole lot of other luxury features. The Lexus IS 250 also came in either automatic or manual transmission with or without AWD.
For its second year from its debut, the Lexus IS 250 went through only minor changes for the 2007 model year. The automaker also introduced a new “X” package for rear-drive IS 250s which featured a sport-tuned suspension. Due to consumer and critic complaints about the IS 250’s systems being too intrusive when maximum performance is desired, Lexus added a cutoff switch for the car’s traction and stability control systems for this model year. Other features of the 2007 IS 250 included a 204-horsepower 2.5-liter V6 engine, the option of a six-speed manual or a six-speed sequential transmission, and either a RWD or an AWD configuration.
Just like the previous year, only minor changes were made for the 2008 Lexus IS 250. One of the improvements for this model year was the new "Liquid Graphite" finish for the wheels. For more legroom, the front seatbacks were also revised. The steering was also recalibrated for a better feel and a coin holder was added as well.
The year 2009 marked another year of minor tweaks for the Lexus IS 250. For this model year, subtle changes were made for the interior and exterior styling. The stability control system became more advanced, the suspension tuning was slightly revised, and a two-tone interior option became available.
In 2012, the Lexus IS 250 gained a lot of standard electronic features. Bluetooth connectivity was included and the XM satellite radio became a part of the standard features. The optional navigation system was also upgraded for this model year. This was also the year Lexus introduced an all-new addition to the lineup, a luxury two-door hardtop convertible called the Lexus IS 250C.
The Lexus IS 250 went through another set of minor adjustments for the 2011 model year. The front grill and front bumper showed off a new look and the interior trim also showed minor changes. Consumers were also offered Deep Sea Mica and Cerulean Blue Metallic as the two new color options. A new F Sport package option was also added for rear-wheel-drive models while the adaptive front xenon headlights and adaptive cruise control features have been discontinued.
The Lexus IS 250 remained unchanged for its 2012 model year. It’s still the same luxury sedan powered by a 2.5-liter V6 engine that produces 204 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque available in RWD or AWD. Transmission options are still consist of the 6-speed manual and the 6-speed paddle-shift sequential automatic.
