If you are replacing your clutch, you are probably going to have to remove the flywheel from the transmission. Like the clutch, the flywheel is part of the friction clamping system that connects the engine to the transmission. Also like the clutch, when the clutch and the flywheel are moving at different speeds, the flywheel can wear down. That is why, if you are removing your clutch, consider installing a new ACT flywheel. Because you have already torn apart the clutch area to replace the clutch, now is the time to install a replacement or resurfaced flywheel. The ACT flywheel is constructed out of high quality chrome-Moly steel, which is more durable than aluminum and more resistant to bending and cracking than cast iron. The ACT flywheel is a great compromise on weight, as well. Too heavy a flywheel, and you can store more of your engine’s inertia, but you lose some throttle response. Too light of a flywheel, and you have great throttle response, but you can lose some drivability characteristics. The ACT flywheel is just the right weight in between. The ACT flywheel will last a long time, and if you do start having some mating issues with the clutch, the ACT flywheel can also be resurfaced.
