Actually, the design for a particular exhaust manifold usually varies since it is attached to cylinder heads for efficiency in gathering the exhaust from each exhaust port. The number of the exhaust installed in a particular vehicle is dependent on the vehicle type. Those engine vehicles with cylinders arranged in-line normally have a single exhaust manifold while those with V-type cylinder arrangements usually have two separate exhaust manifolds, one mounted to each cylinder head. In your vehicle, the exhaust manifold serves as the network of passages that gathers the exhaust manifold from different ports and routes them toward the catalyst and mufflers in the exhaust system. One advantage of an exhaust manifold with free flowing passages of meticulously designed configuration is that it can enhance the vehicle’s breathing. This type of exhaust manifold is called the header. Compared to the typical exhaust manifolds, the header is made up of separate equal-length tubes that further improve the flow of the exhaust gases. There are also headers that are capable of pulling the exhaust gases out of the cylinder heads, allowing the engine to perform better than the usual. Fortunately, exhaust manifolds in general do not require stiff maintenance since it is not that prone to damage.
