"The hood had a dent and scratch on it when we opened the box. Made it difficult to put on." posted by: on February 24, 2014

"The hood packaging was damaged during shipment. The damage on the outside of the box concided with the damage to the hood. Since I was going to paint the hood anyway it wasnt that big of a deal. Spent extra time and money on bondo/sanding and primer. The car got rear ended before I could install the hood. I passed the hood on to a friend of mine and he was very happy. Ill be ordering from you again. Thank you.." posted by: Mike on September 11, 2013 view all 3 reviews

Your Toyota Camry's hood acts as the shield to its most important parts. It not only protects the engine bay from potentially harmful road debris and outdoor elements, but it also insulates the compartment to reduce the transmission of heat and sound. In simpler terms, it keeps what's outside out and what's inside in. Toyota Camry hoods come in a variety of styles and materials. There are hoods that are scooped to improved airflow, while there are hoods that feature lighter materials to reduce the overall weight of a car. This assortment of options only proves that the hood installed on a car not just to protect its inner components. It is also there to improve its overall performance and give your Toyota Camry a look that is worthy of the streets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ask APW
  • The hood on a Toyota Camry gets hot quickly and stays warm even after turning off the engine for hours. What could be the reason for this, and how can this be avoided?
Answer: If the temperature gauge is normal and there aren't any problems with the Camry's engine cooling system, this could be caused by an insulation problem within the hood. Over time, the thin insulation cover enveloping the interior of the hood will start to sag or fall apart because of extreme heat. So to help the hood dissipate heat faster, regularly replace its hood insulation. The old insulation is simply ripped out to give way to the new one. Be sure to get a hood insulation replacement that matches one's driving lifestyle and engine type. These two factors can greatly affect the reliability and service life of hood insulation.
  • What is a cheap but effective way of painting a car's hood?
Answer: DIYing a hood's paint can be a tedious task, and this may require some technical skills. But if done right, it could be the cheapest and most effective way of painting a car's hood. Some of the steps included in this kind of paint job are sanding and coating the hood with primer to prepare it for a fresh coat of paint. This allows the paint to hold to the surface of the hood and make it last longer. Pre-primered hood, on the other hand, are easier to customize since it is virtually paint-ready. So if the Camry's hood has a primered finish, it makes the job twice as easy and cheap. No need to sand or coat it with primer, just apply coat after coat of paint and let it dry.
  • What kind of problems are expected from a Toyota Camry hood, and how can it be repaired?
Answer: Aside from the usual wear and tear, one of the most common problems in all Toyota Camry generations is a stuck hood latch. The latch is a part of the hood that helps keep it securely closed. It basically makes sure that that as the car moves down the highway, simple bumps and rattles won't cause the hood to fly off. Although it was also invented to prevent thieves from getting a free access to the car's engine compartment, the cable release lever inside the Toyota Camry often breaks down and won't seem to let go of the latch. When this happens, never attempt to force the hood open with a crowbar or cutting torch. This could completely damage the hood of the car and expound repair costs. The right way to approach this Camry problem is to first locate what is broken. In most Camry generations, it is the releasing lever and cable under the dash which is at fault. Disassembling the lever and repairing it could help in getting the door latch released and the hood opened. However, there are extreme cases wherein the problem lies under the hood or even the hood itself. To access to the latch mechanism, one can attempt to do it themselves or let the professionals handle the problem by taking the Camry to an auto body shop or service center.
