The power programmer modifies the most fundamental functions of your vehicle's electric control unit. It boosts fuel injection, ignition timing, and variable timing; to induce performance boost and improved fuel economy. It guarantees your Chevrolet Silverado 1500 better mileage with each fuel tank. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better--the power programmer is installed inside the cabin. The commands are controlled by dials and buttons, so there is no need to get under the hood to enable the engine modifications. These days when the price for petrol is hitting an all-time high, a power programmer is an advisable enhancement both for performance and economizing purposes.
The cable was removed while programming the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, will the programming start from the beginning once it is reactivated? Answer: That depends on the brand of the power programmer. But usually--like for the Hypertech Power Programmer III--the programming will continue from where it left off. It will take a moment for the power programmer to identify the vehicle, but the programming will run smoothly once it commences. This will be indicated by a "Programming will continue now" message displayed on the screen.
The power programmer for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 might break the bank a bit, is it okay to buy a second-hand unit? Answer: While the second-hand power programmer may be a cheaper alternative, it is not advisable to purchase one. The thing with a pre-owned programmer--regardless if it is still in good condition, or not-- is that it has been previously installed on a different car, and has already been modified to accommodate the performance requirements of that car. The second-hand gadget may not only prove to be ineffective, but may also damage the electric control unit of the new car entirely--especially if the old and the new vehicles are not at all compatible. There is also no way of knowing what the make, model, and year of production the power programmer was previously used on; so, it's better to opt for a brand-new product from a trustworthy source.
Will the modifications remain even after the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is taken in for service? Answer: No. The owner should restore the vehicle back to stock programming, and uninstall the power programmer before bringing the vehicle to the dealer or a mechanic. The diagnostic devices used by dealers and mechanics will overwrite the data that was previously programmed, and there will be no way to retrieve them. If the programming and the device were properly ejected, reprogramming the vehicle will be a cinch.
