"Shield needs 12 bolts to install. Cust service said they dont carry the little plastic bolts. These bolts are used everywhere in every honda. I had to buy them from a honda dealer $1.43 for each bolt. Obviiously I saved money because the actual fender shield would be much more expensive at the dealer"posted by: on July 2, 2013
Driving your Honda Accord into mud and water puddles surely gives you an oh-no moment. If this scenario always happens, your car will eventually malfunction due to a seized-up engine, which is actually caused by engine oil mixing with water. You can prevent this by installing a splash shield or guard underneath your engine. This component is an addition that will help you protect your engine from foreign materials, not only from mud and water, but also from pebbles and other damaging debris. If your vehicle does not have a splash shield yet, installing one will definitely make your engine more secure, plus the fact that you will experience an increased gas mileage due to a more regulated air flow to the engine compartment.
How can a splash shield installation improve the performance of a Honda Accord's engine?
Answer: The most noticeable improvement on a Honda Accord after the installation of a splash shield is the reduced aerodynamic drag experienced when driving the vehicle. Because the splash shield is flat and thin, it allows air to pass through under the vehicle without too much resistance; this is most especially true when driving high-speed. With less drag, the vehicle will move smoother, thus slightly improving fuel consumption.
How can a splash shield protect the engine of a Honda Accord?
Answer: A splash shield is a thin piece of plastic that is pre-installed on some vehicles. On a Honda Accord, the splash shield keeps pebbles and other road debris from damaging the timing belt or getting stuck in between the engine's moving parts. This protection is important when driving on the countryside where small rocks litter the road. In addition, dust and dirt will be kept away from the engine, which makes the engine cleaner and allows for an easier work on its parts. Moreover, this component prevents the engine from being brushed against a high bump on the road.
What is the advantage of using a polyurethane splash shield instead of a polyethylene plastic one on a Honda Accord?
Answer: There isn't really any advantage by choosing one material over the other for a Honda Accord splash shield. Both of these plastic materials are durable and cheap, plus the fact that they are low-maintenance and are corrosion-resistant is a big bonus.
What is the difference between a single-unit splash shield and a two-unit splash shield?
Answer: A splash shield may have one sheet or two sheets. A single-sheet splash shield is the common type installed on vehicles. This type provides overall protection from water splashes that may enter the engine. Without dirty water mixing with engine oil, the engine will run at its usual performance. On the other hand, a double-sheet splash shield not only provides water splash protection but also prevents aerodynamic drag. Increased flow of air into the engine bay contributes to a better engine performance, which results to a longer gas mileage.
