Who said skirts are only worn by girls? Dress up your ride with a pair of side skirts to enjoy improved aerodynamics and performance from your vehicle. Racers and auto enthusiasts who are vain about their auto often install this add-on to give their sedan a bolder and bigger look. It is usually installed under the car doors, giving the illusion that the auto has a lower ground clearance. This component comes in various shapes and trims; some units have a straight-cut design while others have a curvy trim, adding a little more shape to the vehicle's body kit. Far from the typical add-on, this component not just improves the aesthetic aspect of your exterior; it can also boost fuel mileage and allow you to reduce your fuel consumption. By reducing turbulence and harnessing the air that is produced while the automobile is running, side skirts are able to boost the auto's performance and capabilities. Time to Update Your Old Side Skirts

A side skirt isn't just for aesthetic purposes for your vehicle. This is part of the automobile that's screwed at the bottom side to protect the bottom part from dirt, filth, and other elements that can damage the surface of the car frame. You can easily repair the side skirt if it gets worn out in due time. But, if the damage gets worse, then go ahead and install a new one. Here's a step-by-step process to guide you on how to install a new side skirt to your car.

Difficulty level: moderate

Tools you'll need:

  1. Saw
  2. Ratchet set
  3. Phillips screwdriver
  4. Double-sided tape
  5. Grease pencil
  6. Soft brush
  7. Drill
  8. Small bucket
  9. Dish soap
  10. Towel

Step 1: Before you can start the installation, remove the screws holding the original side skirt to the vehicle. Do this using either the Phillips screwdriver or the ratchet. Place the original side skirt aside.

Step 2: Taking a warm bucket of water, place a few drops of dish soap. Next, using the soft brush, clean the area of the automobile where you're going to install the new side skirt. Dry it out using a towel.

Step 3: Place the new side skirt against the car to fit it. Take note of the location of the screw holes in the vehicle and mark the placement of these holes in the new side skirt using a grease pencil. Don't worry if the skirt is too long; you can cut it using the saw.

Step 4: Drill holes in your new side skirt. Next, line up the skirt against the side of your car and using the grease pencil again, draw an outline where it meets the vehicle. Set the skirt aside.

Step 5: Stick a double-sided tape 2 inches below the grease pencil. Do not block the drill holes as much as possible.

Step 6: Peel off the tape. Next, take the skirt and stick it against the tape.

Step 7: Screw the new side skirt using the bolts and screws that came with it.

Step 8: Drill a hole into each of the wheel wells on the side of the automobile, in the area where the skirt hits them. Using two small screws and Phillips screwdriver, secure the side skirt to the wheel wells. And you're done!

Follow these steps and you'll surely get to install your new side skirt easily. All you need are the right tools, a garage, and you're good to go!
