This is an easy repair that any handyman can do. The hardest part for me was finding all the bolts that hold the door pannel in place. The new wire harness has extra wires as indicated on other reviews but this is only a minor inconvenience. With a tiny screwdriver and can get the wires to release from the conector. As others have said you will find the polarity is reversed.

Amen to those of you who reviewed with additional modfications. Had to do the same on my P5. There was also a extra connecter near the door lock not sure what that was for so I tucked it away.

A fine regulator replacement by PK, September 12, 2012

This is a great window regulator replacement and its pretty easy to install other than the slight hassle of pulling a couple connector wires from the part and matching them up with the connector on the stock part.Worth noting: a lot of people say they spliced the wires to their old connector. Not me. If you are careful you can disengage the head of the wire from its connector and plug it directly into the old connector. No cutting taping or splicing necessary.

Deducted one star for not having identical factory connector. Ordered this for a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege. Found out that the stock regulator only has one two-wire connector coming out of it, not two like the one here. I followed the advise of the other reviewers who cut off the 5 wire connector and only used the larger red and blue wires coming from the new regulator. My polarity also was reversed, so the blue regulator wire now goes to the red factory connector, and the red regulator wire now goes to the black factory connector. Used bullet crimps to mate new and old wires together. Also cut off the unused wire/connector at the top of the regulator so it's not dangling. Thank you guys for your help, I was about to return this part and go to the dealer for at least double the price!

I bought this for my Mazda PR5 driver side window. Initially I had a friend try to install and he told me it wasn't a match and couldn't be done. I was about to send it back when I read someones review saying the wiring needed to be taken off the old part and put onto the new one. This time I took it to a professional and it was installed in an hour for $60.00 well worth the money. Don't be swayed it looks very different but it will work for your mazda protege5.

Have Some Wirestrippers Ready... by Nate, August 17, 2010

I ordered this for my 2002 Mazda Protege5 for my driver side window. Installation is fairly easy and straightforward. Another reviewer mentioned having to remove the wiring harness from the new one and install the old one to it. This is true. The previous reviewer said to connect the red to the red and the black to the blue. I did this and found that my polarity was reversed. So, when I tried to close my window, it would open and when I tried to open it, it would close. I ended up connecting the red to the blue and the black to the red. The other three wires are of no use and I just capped them off and taped them inside the door. Also, of note, the screw that holds the bottom of the guide rail to the door broke when I was screwing it down. It just kind of sheared off. Luckily, I was able to extract the thread from the nut and reapply it to what was left on the guide rail. Ratchet carefully, my friends. One word of advice, make sure you tape your window to the top of the door edge before you install the motor. Once the motor is installed, move it (using your controls) to roughly the middle of the door so you have access to the screw holes for the window. Once you have the window support in an easy to work in location, un-tape your windown and slowly lower it onto the window support then put in your last two bolts.

The new parts electical connections where not the same as the orginal part. the orginal has two wire red and black connection, the new part has red, black, yellow, green, blue wire female connection and another wire at the top of the regulator that isn't needed. had to go to a car audio store for professional advise as to how to cut and rewire the connection as so the blue wire to the black and the red to red and not use the yellow, green, and black so the part would work.
