Great radiator! by K, November 16, 2009

After I had the front of my '99 Trailblazer up on jackstands, it only took me 2 hours to finish and be ready for a test run. I didn't touch the air filter housing. I did take of my brush guard underneath, which was probably unnecessary, but made everything more visible and easier to drain. Not having the AFH out did make it a little more difficult with the oil cooler lines, though; by the way, don't forget to catch 1/4-1/2 cup of oil as it comes out of your old radiator! Overall, installation was pretty smooth. I left as much in place so as to prevent creating new problems. My arms aren't very thick but I still had to get creative at times, so you might need to remove more. Under the hood, I only removed the the upper fan guard and unsnapped the lower fan guard but left it under the fan. I used bungees and other items to secure the main hoses to help keep coolant in the engine and off the ground. Performance wise... it seems to do really well keeping the engine cool - either it holds a notch cooler or just better prevents fluctuations in temps through increased efficiency. A+ here. My OEM radiator also had a leak where the plastic endtank met the aluminum coils, so I went with this all aluminum model. I'm definitely glad I did. Most of the welds are picture perfect on mine, though the ones that aren't are good enough. This radiator should definitely last longer!! A+ here too. My big negative on this model is with the transmission(?) cooling screw sets (on cap side). I had to use the included adapter to reattach them. Not a big deal but it did add space that the lines didn't want to accept. I managed to get them in without feeling like the lines will later break, but the upper one is pushing an insulated A/C line now. Shouldn't matter but it would have been nice if Scilla had elimated the need for an adapter. Minor but noteworthy. Also, without the drain hose, the next flush or drain will be a little more interesting. If you're looking for a radiator, think seriously about this one. I'm completely happy with my purchase.

Better than OEM unit by Bassman, June 29, 2009

The unit comes without paint. I used a high temp black paint since the end tanks are visible after the install. The OEM unit developed a crack on the front of the plastic end tank. This aluminum unit seem more robust and less likely to crack. The install took about 2.5 hours and requires removal of the battery and air filter housing to allow access to the transmission and oil cooler lines. The supplied adapters must be used on the transmission cooler lines. Otherwise I stayed with the OEM fittings. No leaks and seemingly good cooling sa far.

overall I'm happy with the radiator, only problem I had was with a new fitting for the trans cooler, leaked...no matter what I tried I could not get the fitting to stop leaking, ended up using one of the old fittings. Word to the wise do not discard your old fittings untill your sure about everything.
