Choosing a Bed Mat for Your Truck

More often than not, you use your hard-working pickup truck to carry heavy loads. Every time you hit the roads with a lot of stuff at the back of your vehicle, your truck bed becomes vulnerable to damage. Good thing a lot of products in the market today make it easy to provide your vehicle protection. One of these products is the bed mat. This particular accessory helps keep your truck's bed damage-free by providing a cover. Installing a good and durable bed mat on your truck will definitely keep it scratch free. It will also protect the paint job of your truck, which can get damaged when the stuff you carry slides and causes friction. Adding a bed mat to your ride can also give you that custom look that you've always wanted to have. So before your bed mat becomes damaged, give it the protection that it deserves by installing a good bed mat as soon as you can.

Which Bed Mat should you buy?

The bed mat is an inexpensive yet effective way of providing your truck protection with prices ranging from 50 to 100 USD. This accessory is widely available in a variety of materials such as black marine grade carpet, Nyracord (rubber) and polypropylene (plastic). Nyracord is a high-strength, cord-enhanced rubber compound that will keep your truck bed in tiptop shape. On the other hand, polypropylene is a kind of plastic that looks and feels like a carpet. This kind of bed rug is extremely durable and flexible, so it's quite easy to manipulate. There are also other rubber mats, textured raised-surface mats, and custom mats in the market. Rubber mats are usually available for a wide variety of trucks while textured mats provide extra traction. This protects your cargo or load from slipping or sliding. Lastly, custom mats are made to fit your ride precisely. Though this type may cost you more money, it will make your installation a breeze. Make sure you get one that suits both your preference and needs to avoid wasting your hard-earned money.

What to look for when buying a Bed Mat?

Depending on what you are going to get, installation differs for every bed mat. Some are attached using mounting hardware like screws, bolts, clips, and etc while others can be installed by simply using an adhesive. When buying a mat, look for those that are sold with mounting hardware to save some cash and to save you from the hassle of buying tools separately.

For quality that you can trust, never settle for cheap yet poor-quality products that will only make you spend more in the long run. To get your money's worth, buy from a brand that is backed by a reputation that you can trust.

Bed Mat Installation Made Easy

You rely on your truck for travelling, and you use it for carrying heavy loads. To give it the protection that it deserves, you'd better get a durable bet mat that is compatible with your truck as soon as you can. Installing a bed mat on your truck can be really easy, as most mats are attached by drilling and screwing. Below are the basic tools and steps that you can follow to get started with your installation.

Difficulty Level: Easy

Tools:

  • Cleaning materials (rag, water, soap, rubbing alcohol)
  • Drill
  • Philips screw drivers
  • Marking pen

Step 1: Wash your truck bed thoroughly, starting from the side closest to the cab and work your way down to the tailgate. Using a rag, wipe it dry and let it settle under the sun for some time to ensure it's completely water free. Get some rubbing alcohol and use it to clean focal areas. If you see some scratches or rust, use sandpaper to remove and roughen it. You can also use some rust-preventing spray paint to touch it up.

Step 2: Place the bed mat on top of the truck bed, making sure that the carpet side is up. Adjust the mat to ensure it is positioned correctly.

Step 3: If the bed mat you bought has holes, start at the left rear corner of your truck bed and use this hole to mark the spot for drilling.

Step 4: Once you know where to drill, lift the left corner of the mat and drill a hole on the surface of your truck bed. Note: The size of the hole may vary according to the size of your mounting hardware. Refer to your bed mat's instruction manual for more details.

Step 5: Put the male snap on the hole and fasten it using the Philips screw. Put the mat down and press hard to mount the snap on the mat.

Step 6: Repeat Steps 4 and 5 on the right rear side of your vehicle. After that, install the snaps in your wheel wells before attaching some on each corner behind your truck's cab. Install any other remaining snaps.
