We always fancy when a blown muscle car pulls up next to our '69 Chevelle. As the supercharged V8 paves its way with a very throaty rumble, we can't help but hear the taps on the gas pedal. Obviously, it's not the sound of the right foot hitting the pedal that lets us know that. Rather, it's the roar brought about by the quick throttle response. And to ensure that, the car needs a good quality throttle cable that has been properly adjusted to its application. Can the American Shifter Company throttle cable adjuster answer this need? We are here to find out. Our Chevelle became our guinea pig once again for this part.
- Adjustment nuts for regular and custom cable systems
- Made of stainless steel
- Universal fit
- We installed the kit that included the American Shifter Company throttle cable adjuster. We were able to work our way through the engine bay easily because it's not too cramped up with the small block Chevy in place. We replaced the throttle cable in no time. Then we installed the kit from American Shifter Company and attached it to our four-barrel carb. Our primary concern when replacing throttle cables is getting the right amount of play. We had no trouble adjusting and readjusting the nuts until we achieved the response that we were aiming for.
- After the installation, we made a few checks before firing up the engine. It was ready. We fired it up and monitored how the engine idled and responded to the throttle movement. At first, the idle was high, so we had to loosen the throttle cable a bit. But after tweaking the throttle cable adjuster for a few minutes, we were able to bring the idle below 1,000 rpm. And when we stepped on the gas, it was turning the carb right away. It wasn't rocket science.
- We were just a bit worried about the integrity of the nuts and thread. We are very conscious of keeping our Chevelle in tip top shape. That includes having the throttle cable properly adjusted always. Lose threads are always a red flag to us since it restricts as from making our adjustments when needed. This will also prompt us to replace the kit altogether. But so far, it's just our speculation.
American Shifter Company throttle cable adjuster can be considered as an alternative when you are about to replace your old components. Regardless what brand you install, don't forget to always watch out for quality.
