Two important parts of your car's braking system are the brake rotor and the brake pad. The first one is not often replaced, while the other is highly consumable. But you should focus more on getting quality brake rotors because these are attached to your wheel hub, so replacing them more often is quite a hassle. A quality brake rotor must have a smooth surface and be durable. Also, its design must be able to support the longer life of the brake pads. Technology in manufacturing brake rotors has evolved, and now you can even find those kinds that have slots in order to help with heat dissipation. You must also regularly check the thickness of your rotors in order to have an optimum braking partnership with the pads. When your rotors have become .10 of an inch thick, they must be replaced right away. Check out Beck Arnley this time, but before buying its product, let us first see its specifications and performance.

We tested this component on a 1995 Nissan Altima and a 2008 Honda Accord, and here is what we have to say:

            Thumbs up

            • The installation of the rear rotors was relatively easy. The five lugs provided really made our life a breeze. The units had OE specs, so they were similar with the ones removed from the Altima and the Accord. The entire procedure took only thirty minutes for each car.
            • The units looked well-machined. There were no notches around the circumference of the disc, there were no dents on the surfaces, and the holes for the lugs were of equal size and distance from each other.
            • The rotors were crafted from quality materials, and they were not hollow. We beat them against the floor to listen for any sound that would indicate hollowness. Each registered a deep, metallic tone.
            • The coating for corrosion resistance passed our standards. Although we saw some rust-like dots on the surfaces of the rotors, we would not have to worry at least about the surfaces getting totally rusted for a few thousand miles.
            • We drove the two cars non-stop for thirty minutes to see if the rotors would wear that much. We were satisfied that the surface of the rotors facing us did not look even worn after the drive.
            • This is one of the cheapest options out there.

            Thumbs down

            • We were quite unsure if the brown spots we saw on the hub of the rotors were rust. The units could have been stored for a long time and were just sent to us without being looked at. That was not good.

            The verdict

This product is a good option if you are looking for OE units that are affordable and have some quality. Of course, you would have to find out the true value of this Beck Arnley brake disc by using it for several months. For the short testing period we had, the performance of the product was all right. Braking power was relatively good, not outstanding, but at least, we had a safe drive.
