FAQs—Chevrolet Window Regulator
- I just updated my Chevrolet window regulator with an electrical system, but I noticed the windows do not work properly. Is there a system glitch and how do I fix this?
In many instances, like the window regulator in a Chevy Equinox, the system is also automatic and electrically operated. When the regulator system is misaligned or damaged, the windows may suddenly get stuck while opening or closing and will generally not work properly. You can repair the issue by a Chevrolet automatic window repair.
- When I open or close my windows, some windows of my Chevrolet will work while some will not. Do I have to replace the whole window system?
If you can hear the motor sounds working when you attempt to move any of the windows, chances are, the motor is still getting power and may just be misaligned. You can visually check first if there is a disconnection or blown fuse in the regulator motor, which can be easily corrected without having to change the system. However, if that is not the case or some of the windows are working while others do not, you may have to replace the whole system.
- The power window of my Chevy is stuck in the up position. When I push down the switch, it only clicks. Is the window regulator, the motor, or switch damaged?
It is recommended to seek a professional mechanic's help with this kind of issue as it is dangerous to fix a power regulator especially if you are inexperienced. But usually, if it is just a faint click, the motor is possibly malfunctioning. If it clicks and gives a ratcheting noise, the window regulator is probably damaged. Other signs of a defective Chevrolet window regulator include glass popping and dropping into the panel or even metal scraping sounds.
- After installing my windows with tints, my windows become slower when moving up or down. Does that mean I have to remove the tint?
Putting an aftermarket tint on your window can make your windows move slower and cause additional strain on the Chevrolet window regulator assembly. Make sure to only let a skilled tint installer to do your window tinting works. Another cause for your slow window may be due to a dirty or damaged run channel.
- When I was using the auto-up function, the driver or passenger front window goes up and then slides down on its own. How can this be repaired without going to a mechanic?
Make sure to reset the power window control unit first. If it still works the same as before, the run channel might be unclean or damaged.
- I just changed my window regulator. After getting the window attached, I tested it and I smelled a strange burning scent although I don't see any smoke. What is the problem and how do I repair it?
You have to recheck your work. The smell may be due to a motor overload. Take apart all the components again and pay attention to all the details. It is recommended to let a professional mechanic check your vehicle to ensure no injury. There is a high chance you have a defective Chevrolet window regulator.
