            About Kia

            Kia's Steps Toward EcoDynamics

As environmental problems become more alarming, Kia responds to the call by investing more in earth-friendly cars. The company is pursuing an idea it calls EcoDynamics, with HEV, EV, and FCEV vehicles leading the way. These vehicles use various power sources, but they have one purpose?to reduce CO2 emissions, providing a greener earth for everyone.

Read on to know the benefits of each eco-conscious vehicle and how they contribute to a better world.

The HEV: An advantage of two different power sources

Take a car with a conventional engine, fuse it with an electric motor, and make it run efficiently--that's the amazing feature of the hybrid. Kia has been working and testing their Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) since 2005, and it plans to make it perform better. The HEV combines the two main energy sources of the car?fuel and electricity. When the car starts, the electric motor is used. Once it runs on full speed, the fuel engine takes over. Finally, when the car halts, the electric motor is activated again to provide power. This process results in lower emission and better fuel economy. Kia motors has also released the Forte LPi Hybrid, which is the first HEV with a lithium-ion polymer battery.

            The EV: zero CO2 emissions

An idea 20 years in the making, Kia's Electric Vehicles (EVs) are powered only by an electric motor. The electrical energy is stored in high-voltage batteries in the car. This results in no fuel consumption and the conservation of the environment because of zero emissions. An EV is charged through a household charging system for 6 hours or at high-speed charging stations for only 25 minutes. Kia is currently working to reduce risk factors of the electric components of the car and aims to put up infrastructure and plants for EV vehicles.

            The FCEV: a greener alternative

Kia has been developing alternative ways to provide a cleaner environment and to conserve depleting fossil fuels. Since 1998, the car company has been doing research on a Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV); in 1999, they were able to run a fuel cell vehicle within low-temperature (20 degrees Celsuis) conditions. This type of technology lets the car run on hydrogen, oxygen, and electricity. The task at hand for the Korean car manufacturer is to establish a plant for commercial production.

            Kia Highlights

Enjoy the Ride inside Kia's Dream Cars

A decade after the release of the KCV-1 concept car in 2002, Kia has already made 23 concept cars. Every year, new features are added to each concept car-bolder look, better specs, and more futuristic. Among the four concept-car generations-KCV, KCD, KND, and KED, travel back to the future, and revisit the dream cars Kia has created.

KCV Series: The Beginning of an Imagination

The KCV arrived as the earliest series of Kia's concept cars. A notable car in the group is the KCV-3-a compact, convertible coupe. It was designed to give a modern, sporty look for target customers around twenties to thirties. This is a far result from the 5-door KCV-1, which resembled a family SUV. The latest in the series is the Mojave (KCV-4), released in 2004. This is the first and only compact pickup truck in the group to date.

KND Series: The Continuation of Versatility

Designed differently each year, the KND series showed a complete array of car types Kia can produce, from the 2004, 5-door, Kia Sport (KND-1) compact hatchback to the 2005 Multi S (KND-2) business/ leisure crossover SUV. 2006 brought another design in the mix with Soul (KND-3) that exhibited a wrap-around windshield and windows, while 2007 finally saw the arrival of KND-4, the 3-door, luminous green, SUV with 20-inch wheels and low-profile tires.

KED Series: The Achievement of Stylish Design

2006 was the birth of the KED series, with both ceed (KED-1) and pro_ceed (KED-2) introduced in the same year. KED-1 was designed with a European compact-car appeal, while KED-2 showed a two-door, sporty hatchback, muscular look. The same release took place the preceding year, as KED-3 and KED-4 came out in 2007. A convertible and a coupe respectively, both cars gave an impression of aggressiveness with style. The Soul Diva (KED-5) was a throwback of ceed, but this time, the 5-door was glamorous, stylish and beautifully aimed for women consumers.

KCD Series: The Class for the Future

Probably the most futuristic bunch among the concept cars, the KCD Series already has 8 concept cars which started in 2003 from KCD-1, which looked like a car in the Tron movie. A huge SUV named MESA (KCD-2) followed. With its 22-inch rims and silver body paint, it can easily rove the moon by the looks alone. The recent addition to the KCD Series is the TRACK'STER (KCD). A three-door type with the Soul's edge plus the 250-hp power, this is easily one of the most attractive concept cars Kia has evercreated.

            Kia Trivia

            Did you know that...

            • Since its 1944 founding, Kia had built the first Korean bike (1952), created the first Korean scooter (1957), produced the first Korean truck (1962), and finally made the first Kia car in 1974.
            • Gray is the only possible interior color for a Kia Rio fresh from the factory.
            • When Kia filed for bankruptcy in 1997, it had been acquired by rival company Hyundai Motor Company. The two automobile brands now lead the car manufacturing industry in Korea under Hyundai.
            • Aside from passenger vehicles, Kia has also been manufacturing military vehicles for the South Korean government since 1976.
            • When the second biggest Korean automobile manufacturer, Kia Motors, declared bankruptcy in 1997, the industry leader, Hyundai Motor Company, took over 51% of the company, outbidding Ford Motor Company. So don't be surprised to search for Kia parts and Kia accessories and find Hyundai parts and accessories instead. In the United States, Kia Motors is known as Kia Motors America (KMA)-which was the 8th-best selling automotive brand in the US in August 2009-beating more popular brands like Chrysler and Mazda. But then that should come as no surprise because Kia's always been doing its best to improve its craft, as shown by its lineup of hybrid electric vehicles and recently developed exterior Kia auto parts that make Kia vehicles even more unique. Now, lots of changes may take place inside of Kia, but whatever they are and no matter how many they are, Auto Parts Warehouse's commitment to provide you with top-quality and trendy Kia parts and accessories will remain as solid as ever.
